Stability issues on film press eliminated with innovative applicator beam technology

The IBS Paper Performance Group, a technology leader in paper machine optimization, has successfully completed a quality improvement project for a customer in Germany. Thanks to cutting-edge metering technology, the manufacturer of corrugated base paper was able to achieve significant improvements in the production process as well as a perfectly uniform CD profile in starch application. The modernization focused on the machine’s film press, which had previously struggled with significant stability issues.

The project utilized innovative applicator beams from Horst Sprenger, a member of the IBS Group and a specialist in metering systems with over 50 years of experience. A key advantage of these beams is their thermally stable design combined with a deformation-free application mechanism. The tension-free mounted beam support ensures that the metering systems run absolutely evenly on the roll. In addition, the installed applicator beams incorporate state-of-the-art metering systems as well as advanced edge doctor technology, which was developed specifically for retrofitting existing film presses.

The results of the installation - featuring a beam length of 8,700 mm - are impressive: the wear-related stability issues of the previous application units were completely eliminated. Despite frequent cooling and heating phases, the system remains 100% dimensionally stable and delivers a perfectly uniform CD profile of the starch application.

This tailor-made solution, which is 100% manufactured in-house, emphasizes the IBS Group’s commitment reducing its customers’ production costs through technological precision and saving resources.
